An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) is required for traveling with a dog, cat, or ferret from the UK to the EU. Issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV), the AHC must be completed no more than 10 days before departure and is valid for a single trip to the EU. Each certificate can include up to five pets, provided they are not traveling for commercial purposes.

To obtain an AHC, your pet(s) must:

  • Be microchipped

  • Have a valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before the AHC can be issued

AHCs replaced GB-issued pet passports in January 2021 following Brexit.

AHCs apply only to dogs, cats, and ferrets traveling to the EU, Switzerland, or Norway. For other species or travel outside these areas, a different type of certificate is required.
